Reminder to Parents of Children – Grades 2-6: There will be a Table Talk meeting on Saturday, May 15 at 9:00 AM in the Auditorium to discuss ways to improve our Faith Formation program for children in this age group.

Readers of Foreign Languages
are needed to participate in the reading of Acts 2:5-13 on Pentecost Sunday, May 23rd at the combined 10:00AM worship service.  Please call the Church Office at 723-1611 leaving your name, phone number and the language you can read.

Volunteers needed to act as docents May 28th through June 6th when the tea room is open.  Show our beautiful sanctuary to visitors, give them a brief history of St. Matthew’s and answer their questions.  Sign up for a 2 hour or 4 hour shift between 12:00- 4:00 pm.  A booklet is provided with all the necessary information on history, windows, etc.  Please contact Nancy Kruger at 723-1611 Ext 19 or via email archives@smlccharleston.org and leave a message; leave a message in our mail box in the church office or contact any other member of the Archives and History Committee.
What fun are you planning for Sunday, May 23?  Let us at the OLC tell you! You have the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with your favorite loved ones, sipping tea and devouring finger sandwiches, and let’s not forget our infamous homemade desserts … all while listening to live music and the Ladies of Southern Protocol explaining tea etiquette and history!  This event is benefiting the OLC and we’d LOVE to have your family join!  Two seatings, 12:30pm and 3pm, ages 4+, $20 adults/$15 children. Registration for Vacation Bible School and
Summer Faith Formation

The summer fun begins with the Baobab Blast Vacation Bible School All Church Opening Celebration on Sunday, June 13, 9:45AM. Activities for children (age 3 through entering 5th grade) continue Monday, June 14 – Thursday June 17, 9:00 AM – Noon. On Thursday evening there is an All Church VBS Closing Celebration with Supper, Program and Ice Cream 6:00 – 8:00. Be sure to get a free CD with Baobab VBS music and information about VBS 2010 Mission Project: Masama Girls School when you register! Youth and adults please sign up to help. Afternoon events are planned for youth helpers! Childcare will be provided for infants/toddlers of volunteers. To register or for more information about helping please see Jenny Renken, VBS Director.
RENEW is our theme for Summer Sundays and begins Sunday, June 20, 9:45AM. We’ll spend all summer learning about the Parable of the Sower from Mark 4:1-9. Nursery will be available for infants and toddlers. There will be a Preschool group, Lower Elementary group (completed K– 2) and Upper Elementary group (completed 3-4). Be sure to get a free CD with RENEW music when you register! As with the weekday VBS, youth who have completed Grades 5-12 are needed as helpers. We also need 2 adults for each group each week. Please consider helping one of more Sundays this summer. Child Protection Trainings in May & June: As a part of implementing St. Matthew’s Child Protection Policy, adult volunteers for Vacation Bible School, Faith Formation or Youth Ministry need to complete required paperwork and must also complete the Stewards of Children prevention training from Darkness to Light. Stewards of Children will be offered Monday, May 24, 6:00-9:00PM with dinner included. Another training will be offered Wednesday, June 9, Noon – 3:00 with lunch and 6:00 – 9:00PM with dinner. The training is also available online. For sign up and additional information, see Cindy Greenwood in the Education hallway following worship.


CONGRATULATIONS to our 2010 Graduates!

If you are graduating from high school, college or institute of higher learning or have graduated within the last year, please complete an information card in the Education hallway or contact the church office by tomorrow, May 10. Graduates will be recognized during 11:00 worship on May 16, followed by a reception in the Courtyard.

Farewell Reception for Matt Canniff-Kuhn Sunday, May 30, 9:45AM: The Education Ministry Board will host a reception in appreciation for Matt’s time in ministry at St. Matthew’s as Coordinator of Youth and Young Adults. Please join us in the Courtyard, weather permitting, or in the Auditorium. As a part of this event, please take a few moments to write a personal note to express your appreciation and place your words of love in the basket provided at the reception.
