Belong!
is a three-week seminar
led by Pastor Wallace that explores belonging to the called
– gathered – centered and sent people known as the Body of
Christ, the Christian Church. This seminar is open to all
and extends a special invitation to persons considering
joining the congregation. However, taking the seminar does
not obligate a person to membership. This session of
Belong! will take place on Tuesday evenings, March 9, 16,
& 23 from 6:15 to 8:45 pm. Topics the Belong seminar
explores include Basic Christian teaching, God’s “chosen
people” – a biblical depiction, the Christian Church as
“chosen people,” the Lutheran gift to Christian thought and
ministry, God missional at and through St. Matthew’s, our
“life” in Christ.
The
partnership between Thrivent for Lutherans, the Lutheran
Congregations in the Low Country and Habitat for Humanity
have set out to build another home for a family in need of
adequate housing. You can help. Volunteers are needed
for each Saturday in March and April. Please contact Pastor
Dick Campbell to sign up and to receive contact
information. This is the third home in our area that has
been built as a result of this partnership. All you need to
volunteer is a Saturday, a hammer and a willing heart.
The
Journey meets tonight in the Fellowship Room.
Part of the Lutheran Student Movement, this St. Matthew’s
ministry is for and with college and grad school aged young
adults. The gathering with Pastor Robert and Cheri starts
at 7:00 PM. Of course, there will be snacks!
XYZ Rolling Bowlers meets tomorrow, March 1 at Ashley
Lanes at 1:30 PM. All adults 55+ are invited. Bring a
friend! Caller for March is John Rodenberg.
Thanks & Celebrate! On Sunday, March
28, between worship
services the church council will host a reception to honor
three employees who have served the congregation – Margaret
Peck (taking a new position in the area of advocating for
the poor), Joe Reed (disability), and Al Clement (change in
the custodial role). This will be our opportunity to
express gratitude for their service among us. Any questions
you have about the reception should be addressed to Suzy
Stephens at 723-1611 Ext. 21.
For the 10th
year St. Matthew’s is sponsoring the Cinderella

Outreach Center. Please call the Center at 579-0420 or
email cinderella.project.2010@gmail.com if you wish to
volunteer for set-up for March 13 or 20 and/or breakdown.
So many girls will benefit. Thank you for your help.
Furman
University Chamber Choir: Sunday, March 21, is the
325th

Lutheran composer Johann Sebastian Bach. In honor of that
occasion, St. Matthew’s will be privileged to host the 25
voice Chamber Choir from Furman University in Greenville,
SC. The choir will sing at both services on that day under
the direction of Dr. William Thomas. Dr. Charles Thompkins,
professor of organ and nationally know concert artist, will
accompany the choir and play the liturgy and hymns.
Housing is needed for Saturday evening, March
20. If you are
willing to host two or more students in your home, please
call Sandy Yohman.
